Q: What time do you leave in the morning for the Saltery Creek fishing trip?

A: We will meet at the Saltery Cove Trailhead at a prearranged time depending on if we are sightseeing or fishing. Fishing trips for Sockeye usually leave around 0330 in the morning, coho around 0430. Trust me, it will be well worth it to leave that early in the morning.

Q: Where do we meet up the morning of our trip?

A: We will meet at the Saltery Cove Trailhead located at the American River parking lot. The drive to the trailhead is around 35 minutes from town.

Q: Are bears common around Saltery Creek?

A: Yes, bears are very common along all rivers in Kodiak that have a salmon return. However, please be aware that wildlife views are not guaranteed in any fashion. That being said, while fishing summer of 2022 we saw bears every single time we went out.

Q: How long is the Saltery fishing trip?

A: The Saltery fishing trip is roughly 8-10 hours total. Please allow for about 35-40 minutes from town to the trail head, and about an hour on the trail each way.

Q: Will my group have to travel with other anglers/sightseers?

A: Yes, your group will likely be sharing the use of the side by side, unless you book a private party reservation. If that is something you are interested in doing, please give us a call, or email us, to arrange it!

Q: Will the trip still continue as planned even if it is raining?

A: Yes, the trip will continue as planned. We fish rain or shine!

Q: What should I bring?

A: Please make sure to bring the appropriate rain gear and warm clothing. You may bring your own fishing gear if you choose, but if not, we have fishing gear and waders available. If you choose to bring your own stuff, please don’t over pack, as space on the side by side is limited.

Q: What is the trail to Saltery like?

A: The trail out to Saltery is very rugged and rough. The scenery is comparable to Hawaii with lush green vegetation all around. We will be driving up and down a mountain pass, and through holes filled with water and deep mud. Stream crossings are common and in accordance with ADF&G regulated crossings. Be ready for some extreme off-road wheeling!
